CARE AND MAINTENANCE FAQS
How do I maintain the protected wax finish of the fiber cement?
Re-wax periodically. The waxing process is a quick and easy way to maintain the finish of your Brown Jordan Fire and offers an additional layer of protection against stains. Wax within two months of installation and once every 3 to 6 months depending on use and location. If kept outside, wax well before the winter season
If the wax coating is knowingly cut or scraped, new wax should be applied. Spills should be wiped up as as soon as possible. While the wax holds up against stains from oils and acidic materials, prolonged exposure may cause penetration of the seal and eventual discoloration. Do not place place hot objects on the surface as they may cause discoloration. Use of trivets is recommended to avoid damage or staining resulting from exposure to heat.
Although not considered a defect, non-structural hairline cracks are possible and may result naturally from the curing process. If hairline cracks do appear, immediately apply a thick coat of wax and rub in well to prevent moisture from seeping into the cracks. Re-wax the area and surrounding surfaces periodically as detailed above.
How do I clean my Brown Jordan Fire?
Models made from fiber cement (Urth, Flo, Cloud, Equinox, Platform and Stage) can be cleaned with dish soap, water and a sponge. Do not use any heavy abrasive or bleach based cleaners as they will wear down the protective layer of wax which results in lower stain resistance. We do not recommend use of most natural cleaners (which are often citrus based) because their high acidity level can damage the model's surface. Lumen, Moment and Evolution can all be cleaned with cleaned with multi-purpose cleaners and a sponge.
How do I remove stains from fiber cement?
Though fiber cement is not an overly porous material there is still a possibility of staining, particularly if not well maintained. Use a fine grit sandpaper on the affected area to remove the stain then re-apply wax as outlined in the general maintenance. It is recommended that a small, discrete area is tested first to ensure damage to the surface will not occur.
How do I clean my EcoSmart Fire burner?
Cleaning of the burner should be done only after you have used 13 gallons of fuel or as soon as you notice a black residue forming around or on the burner. Before you start cleaning, make sure the burner is off, empty of ethanol and at room temperature. Spray a multi-purpose cleaner on the surface of the burner and wipe with cloth, making sure to wipe in the direction of the grain. If material has fallen into the burner use a vacuum cleaner to remove debris through the burner opening.
If your burner smells unusually strong after extensive use, remove the empty and room temperature burner from its surround and wash in hot, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly under running water and wait until burner is completely dry before placing back into its surround and reusing.
Note: Stainless steel will rust or corrode over time if contamination or debris is not cleaned or removed immediately. When not in use, it is recommended that you protect your fireplace from water damage or corrosion with a protective cover and the regular use the Burner Lid included with your model.
My lighter does not work. What do I need to do to get it working? Due to shipping restrictions, we have to ship our lighters without butante. Pressurized cans of butane can be found at major home improvement stores nationwide. Lighters have a small hole or port at the bottom of them. Place the butane can's refilling straw into this hole and press down into the lighter. This will release the butane. Fill until lighter becomes cold to the touch.
