Brown Jordan: What was the inspiration behind the design?

Ann Marie Vering: "I looked to the sport of polo for inspiration. It is the sport of kings. I was led to polo after a trip up the coast and fell in love with the visuals of the sport. The wood of the mallet, the polo iron on the horses, and the lushness of the outdoor green fields inspired me to bring it all together to create this collection. The curve of the chair was inspired by the polo irons, and the side chairs capture the essence of the polo mallet."

Brown Jordan: What overall “look” did you want to achieve with Luca?

Ann Marie Vering: "The intention for the overall look of the collection was to achieve a modern timeless collection with approachable curves and elegant lines."

Brown Jordan: How did you ensure that these designs are both functional and aesthetically pleasing?

Ann Marie Vering: "The designs are functional and aesthetically pleasing, without compromise. After many years of designing outdoor furniture, functionality is engrained, you know what works and what doesn't. It is easy to create a beautiful sketch of a statement chair and fall in love with the design, but executing that design is key. Beauty and functionality go hand-in-hand for this collection. There is softness of the wood arms against the strength of the metal frame, coupled with the contemporary architecture of the frame."

Brown Jordan: Can you share innovative techniques or technologies utilized in the creation of this collection? How do these advancements enhance the quality or longevity of the pieces?

Ann Marie Vering: "I worked directly with the Brown Jordan Factory team, who take pride in their craftsmanship, to achieve the curves of the arm and attachments of the teak to the metal. The collection is fabricated with concealed joints, so the look is clean. There are key details of the design of the collection that will be appreciated from an industrial design standpoint such as the joint connections, the widths and radius ratios, in addition to the overall aesthetic. Brown Jordan quality is known for longevity, so these designs are timeless to account for such."
